As per a new study, consumption of avocados as part of a moderate diet can help lower bad cholesterol levels and help people with obesity or are overweight. Avocados are known for the high level of fats but majority of the avocado’s fat is of monounsaturated type that is the good type of fat. Monounsaturated fats may help lower bad cholesterol levels and further reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. Certain studies by researchers show that an avocado a day along with your moderate fat diet can help you reduce bad cholesterol.
The study was carried out by recruitment of a team of 45 healthy 20-70 years aged people who were overweight. After they were successfully monitored with the fruit consumption, the researchers noted certain changes. The participant’s levels of LDL (low-density lipoprotein) which is referred to as the bad cholesterol, were an average of 8.2 mg/dL lower after following the proper low-fat diet without avocado and 7.3 mg/dL lower after following the same diet with avocado consumption.
Along with these observations the team found that number of additional blood measurements like total cholesterol, small dense LDL, triglycerides and non-high density lipoprotein were far better after all the participants strictly followed the moderate fat diet along with one avocado day consumption.
After carrying out the above study successfully, the team believes that people can always replace the saturated fatty acids in their regular diet with the healthy type of fats available in avocados and other sources.
